Fresh from winning Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent competition, signing her record deal and supporting Keane on their UK tour, Marie White is ready to bring her heart-warming pop numbers to a bigger audience than ever.
Marie grew up listening to her mum’s R&B favourites: Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross and Aretha Franklin, as well as her dad’s classic rock collection including David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen, and this eclectic combination of influences really shines through in her music. Like the lovechild of Tracy Chapman and Lewis Capaldi, her charismatic charm, irresistible vocal delivery and anecdotal story-telling sparks empathy and recognition within every listener.
Marie’s personal musical journey began after a life-changing sports injury altered the course of her future. Bed bound and heartbroken, she crafted her problems into poetry and started making music.
Marie’s latest single ‘Sleepwalking’ showcases her incredibly powerful vocals, complimented by a soothing piano melody as she takes the listener through a touching and thoughtful lyrical journey. Speaking about the track, Marie says “You know those relationships where you both just sort of co-exist in each other’s company? When you’re together you’d rather be alone, but when you’re alone you start to feel lonely? You feel comfortable and safe, but still know it isn’t right? I wondered if a single phrase could encapsulate such a complex feeling and I thought ‘sleepwalking’ summed it up perfectly.”
